In recent years, Thailand has become a popular destination for tourists around the world. The reason for this may be the composition of this country, which is basically formed from a continental area and hundreds of islands around it.
Thailand has the geography to satisfy all the needs for a vacation. For people who love a vacation by the water, there are lots of beaches available. For people who love climbing mountains, these are here as well.
There are many destinations you can choose in Thailand, but some of the most visited lay in the south. These destinations include Phuket resort. The neighboring provinces are Krabi and Phang Nga. The Phuket resort has no land boundaries with any of these provinces because it is an island.
Phuket has some significant events throughout its history. In the 18th century, 1785 to be exact, there was an attack on this province. The Burmese, trying to expand their territory, placed a siege on this island for a month, but they were forced to retreat. That was the time when two women, the wife of the governor, who recently deceased, and her sister, became important figures in Phuket history.
The end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century marked an important period in Phuket history. This was the time when this province became the center of administration for the provinces in the south of Thailand, which were producing tin. After that, in 1933, the Phuket subdivision of Thailand was dissolved and thus it was proclaimed a province by itself.
In 2004, on December 26th, Phuket was struck by the tsunami caused by an Earthquake in the Indian Ocean. The loss of lives was great, over 5000 people died, and the damages struck the entire nation as well as other parts of Asia. However, Phuket resort was able to overcome that period life and steadily this region of the world returned to normal.
