Ischemic Colitis - You Don't Have To Suffer

Ischemic colitis affects the colon, specifically the large intestine which becomes inflamed due to some type of disruption in the blood flow to the colon. Ischemic colitis can vary in terms of longevity. In other words, it can come on suddenly and be very brief or it can last for a long time. Also, ischemic colitis can cause milder symptoms or it can cause very severe symptoms. If left untreated, there is a chance that ulcers can develop all along the lining of the colon. The pain from this condition is prevalent along the left side of the abdomen.

If you leave the treatment choice up to your doctor it won't take long before you will see that the doctor will likely give you prescriptions to control blood pressure and keep it at normal levels which will regulate the way the blood flows into your colon. He may also give you some antibiotics for a possible infection and maybe he will request that you take an aspirin each day to avoid any heart problems that may arise. In order for the doctor to monitor your progress he will likely set up scheduled colonoscopies. The next option could be surgery depending on the other symptoms that are present.

In an attempt to avoid all of this, many people prefer to approach this condition in a natural manner. There are natural and very mild ways to control the bouts of diarrhea starting with drinking plenty of water, light teas, and clear broths. Another way to treat ischemic colitis naturally is to stay away from high fiber, fatty, greasy, and spicy foods altogether until the diarrhea is completely gone. Avoid all dairy products except yogurt because yogurt has a lot of healthy bacteria which could be beneficial.

Eating small but more frequent meals helps the digestion process and so does chewing your food thoroughly and slowly. Other natural ways to treat ischemic colitis include eating a couple of bananas each day and possibly combining the bananas with some coconut milk. This naturally benefits the colon and is a great replacement for a lunch or breakfast.

Wheat grass juice is extremely beneficial for the colon and the detoxification process. Because ischemic colitis is caused from a disruption in the flow of the blood in the colon it makes perfect sense to attempt to treat it naturally first with dietary and lifestyle changes.
